Mindfulness and Stress Management Our stress management programmes comprise: How Mindfulness Can Help You With Stress Management Mindfulness is a practice of paying attention to whatever is happening in the present moment and offers a way of freeing yourself from automatic and unhelpful patterns of thinking and responding. Being mindful supports you to take better care of yourself, through exploring and understanding the interplay of your mind and body. Through practising mindfulness you learn how to identify ‘key stressors’ in your mind and body, and to move from a habit-driven way of reacting to stress, to responding from a place of greater calm, confidence and contentment. Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) MBSR was developed in the Division of Preventive and Behavioural Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 1979 by Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn and his associates. It is the oldest and largest medical center – based stress reduction programme in the USA and has served as a model for more than 250 similar programmes in the USA and world-wide. The focus of the programme is intensive training in mindfulness practices and its integration into the challenges and adventures of everyday life.
